Zvezda and Samsung Heavy Industries create a joint venture for construction of Arctic shuttle tankers.
Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (The Republic of Korea) signed the Term Sheet for creating a joint venture (JV) to manage projects for construction of Arctic shuttle tankers ranging from 42,000 to 120,000 dwt
Under the Agreement terms, the JV shall be established by the end of the year. The Agreement was signed by Jinhan Bae, Executive Vice President, Samsung Heavy Industries and S.Tseluyko, Managing Director, Zvezda SBC Ltd.
The agreement terms include exchange of experience in designing and construction of shuttle tankers. Samsung Heavy Industries will provide technical specifications as well as the basic and detailed design of the vessels to Zvezda and will assist with development of detailed engineering drawings jointly with Lazurit Central Design Bureau.
In addition, Korean shipbuilder will also provide technical support for planning, project management and quality assurance during construction and assembly, procurement of materials and equipment and ensure the engineering support of construction of shuttle tankers at Zvezda.
Samsung will also train the Russian personnel at their shipyard and organize intership programmes at similar projects.
SHI has extensive experience and high qualification in the design and construction of Arctic shuttle tankers. It makes "big three" Korean shipbuilders.Zvezda Shipbuilding complex is being created basing on Zvezda Far Eastern Plant by a consortium headed by Rosneft. The shipbuilding complex design provides for the construction of an outfitting berth, a dry dock, full-cycle production shops, and shops for the construction of offshore marine facilities.
Zvezda Shipbuilding complex will produce large-sized vessels, offshore platform elements, ice-class vessels, special vessels, and other marine facilities.
Rosneft entered into an exclusive agreement with the Zvezda shipyard to place all its orders for the construction of new marine equipment and vessels, as well as concluded contracts for the design, construction and supply:
–four multifunctional ice-breaking supply vessels;
–ten Aframax tankers;
– ten Arctic shuttle tankers, 42,000 t dwt;– Arctic shuttle tanker, 69,000 t dwt.
