The floating structure, length 114 meters and height 12 meters, will insulate the dock section, the floor of which is located lower than water level, from water area.
Made of high-yield-stress ship steel the hull of caisson has blind waterproof jacket and divided into air, ballast and open compartments by deckforms and bulkheads. Ballast arrangement, dehumidifying systems, ventilation system, valves of flooding of dry dock, and also local fire fighting system and fire alarm system are included as a compound of floating caisson. The operation of floating caisson is performed from central panel and local station. One more feature is availability of separate carriageways on deck of floating caisson.
Professionals of shipyard executed the flooding of dry dock before installation of floating bulkhead. Demolition work of fencing gates, dike dam of dry dock, and also bottom dredging to adjacent to dock gate of water area were performed.
Dry dock is one of the largest hydraulic engineering installation in the world (dimensional specifications 485m by 114m by 14m) and key aspect of the second phase of Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex. Dry dock allows to construct the majority types of current and advanced vessels almost without limitation of tonnage and launching weight of hulls. The unique gantry crane “Goliath” lifting capacity 1,200t was installed on the dry dock, pumping equipment unparalleled in Russia was assembled. The dock commissioning is slated to this year.
The construction of the world’s largest icebreaker Rossiya of “Lider” Project will be carried out on Zvezda shipbuilding Complex dry dock. At present the cutting of first units for future atomic vessel is being maintaining in the hull production workshop.
This vessel will be the most powerful of all time of world’s shipbuilding. The most difficult Project from a technical point of view is unparalleled in the world. To provide for all year round convoying of mercantile marine along the Northern Sea Route is its core function. Project “Lider” will become the foundation of Russian icebreaking fleet of new generation. The length of new atomic vessel is 210 meters, beam moulded – 47 meters and draught – 13 meters. Icebreaker “Lider” will be equipped by two atomic reactors “RITM – 400” with four turbine installations and four propelling motors. The total power of icebreaker’s electric power installations will be 120 Mwatt resulting in the vessel to overcome the ice of thickness more than 4 meters with speed of 2 knots. The speed of icebreaker will compose up to 12 knots with the ice thickness of 2 meters.
Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is being created by Consortium headed by PSJC “NK “Rosneft” on behalf of Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. For now, the stock of orders of shipyard is consist of 39 vessels and 59 vessels with account taken of options. Pilot loading of the complex is provided by PJSC "NK “Rosneft", placed the order for 28 vessels on the shipyard. The ships with displacement up to 350,000t, elements of offshore platforms, ice-class vessels, merchant ships for freight hauling, specific vessels and other types of offshore facilities of any complexity, quality and assignment, including equipment which is not available previously on Russia due to lack of needed launching and hydraulic engineering installations will be entered to product range of Zvezda.
