Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex started the construction of the second ARC7 LNG carrier. The first detail of the prospective vessel was scrieved on the high-technology plasma working machine in the Hull structures fabrication shop. The ship-building of this type at Russian shipyards is unique event and one of the priority area of production programme of Zvezda shipyard.
LNG carriers are built for Arctic LNG2 Project on behalf of PAO NOVATEK. The construction project of new vessels is financed by VEB.RF. Zvezda SSK and VEB.RF Groups of Companies concluded the Contracts for construction of 15 LNG carriers for transportation of liquefied gas in difficult sea conditions of Northern Sea Route. The vessels will be operated under long-term time charter contracts of PAO Sovcomflot (for a pilot vessel) and LLC “SMART LNG” (an affiliated undertaking of Group of companies of Sovcomflot and NOVATEK, for the rest of 14 vessels of the series) with LLC “Arctic LNG 2” (an affiliated undertaking of PAO NOVATEK).
LNG carriers are built for the first time ever in Russian Federation. For many years, they were ordered exclusively abroad. The construction of LNG carriers is one of the most technologically-difficult operations in the world shipbuilding. Zvezda SSK is in possession of equipment, unique for Russian shipyards and world class advanced technologies, which allow to realize such projects.
ARC7 LNG carries are submitted for transportation of liquefied natural gas and are able to operate in stern climatic conditions. The length of the vessel is 300 m, beam moulded is 48,8 m, cargo tank capacity is 172 600 m3. These vessels are notable for higher international environmental safety as they make use of liquefied natural gas in the capacity of fuels.
The vessel design of LNG carrier independently allows to negotiate ice over 2 m thick. The capability of power installation of the gas carrier is 45 MW. The vessel is equipped with three unique rudder propellers, the production of which is situated in Bolshoy Kamen at VRK Sapphire Plant - a joint venture of NK Rosneft and GE.
